It’s been a while since we last updated you all on the progress at Career Central.

November last year we attended the CATE (Career and Transition Educators Conference) in Hamilton where Sue was lucky enough to present the Career Central platform to more than 150 career advisors. The demonstration was very well received, in fact, last year before the CATE conference we had just under 3000 students using the Career Central platform, today we have over 30,000 students spread over 33 schools…and growing fast!

To accommodate our new schools, we’ve been working hard to expand the network, optimise our workflow, and improve the back-end code. Tim (pictured above) has spent long hours making sure we can deliver the best possible user experience for both councillors and students. Job videos and ‘job of the week’ are two of the many new features to join the platform.

We’re really pleased to with the positive responses from new guidance councillors and students so far. It’s exciting to hear about general efficiency improvements through streamlining administrative tasks, and a much higher level of schoolwide engagement in career education alltogether. It’s a real motivator for us to know that in a time where the job market is rapidly changing, our focus on helping student’s develop confidence in their own abilities and passions is all the more important.

Looking ahead to the next stage of growth we have some really ambitious goals. Tim has been convinced to begin the development of a career central app. This would enable unified communication with students in a timely manner they can relate to. Lastly, the team is looking into schools having the ability to use the information students put in their profiles to meet the assessment criteria for 2 NCEA unit standards, Exploring career options and their implications, and Producing a plan for own future direction…Watch this space!

As always, we welcome any feedback and ideas.
